A modular system for the Design, Development and Construction of Elementary and Intermediate Public Schools in Lebanon was instigated by the shortage of Public Schools in the country. The project aims to develop a creative and flexible architectural solution for the development of students across the country. The scope was carried out in three consecutive phases.
PHASE 1 consisted of a detailed analysis of the brief in line with the general direction issued by the National Research Council for Education, covering all the component elements and culminating in a report with a set of directives that would serve to shape the architectural objective.
PHASE 2 involved the study and the development of school prototypes set in different localities, with three capacities and a variety of site constraints. Three archetypes were executed consecutively in traditional construction methods together with three prototypes for teacher training centers.
PHASE 3 was reinitiated following the end of the Lebanese Civil War. The program expanded to include the development of 87 schools of different capacities and contextual conditions, together with the preparation of construction and tender documents to be launched for international tender for an optimized outcome in cost and time.
